Our Process

The ‘Symphony in Cedar’ Wood Restoration & Protection Process:

Step 1: Cleaning

Since intense pressure washing can damage delicate wood grain, we use a gentler technique with the appropriate chemicals to remove dirt, organic growth, dead grey cells, and old finishes, while protecting your wood. Depending on the condition of your wood, we offer...

  • Level 1 Wash (Eco-Wash): This eco-friendly wash is ideal for newer wood with mild greying and organic growth. It will not harm plants or pets.

  • Level 2 Wash (Regular Wash): This is ideal for most fences and decks, and removes the grey wood, organic growth, and even lighter oil-based stains.

  • Level 3 Wash (Heavy Wash): This is often necessary for fences with a lot of growth, grey wood, and old oil-based solid or semi-solid finishes that need to be removed.

  • Level 4 Wash (Hard Stripper): Necessary to remove water-based finishes, or severe growth and greying.

Step 2: Wood Conditioning & Color Restoration

Strong cleaners—which are alkaline—need to be neutralized with a mild acid to balance the pH of the wood (and surrounding yard!), and prevent the cleaning chemical from causing "blotchiness" in the finished product, or even potentially killing your plants.

This step also restores the wood's natural color, opens the grain, and prepares it to accept stain, which makes it a necessary part of the process that, sadly, many stainers skip, and most pressure washers don't know about.

Step 3: Sanding (Decks Only)

We sand your deck to restore a nice, smooth, beautiful surface you can safely walk barefoot on. Sure, it's work. But the result makes it worth it!

Step 4: Prepping For Stain

We take all necessary precautions to ensure stain sticks only to what we’re staining, and nothing else—guaranteed, or we’ll clean it up... even if it means making a trip back out.

Step 5: Staining & Sealing

We stain your wood with the color of your choice using the finest commercial-grade, eco-friendly, low-VOC stains available. That means no awful chemical smell coming off your fence or deck for weeks.

We use oil-based stains with up to 150% more pigment than competing alternatives, which leaves a deep, rich, vibrant color that looks absolutely beautiful and protects your wood from even the harshest elements for years to come. It is mold and mildew resistant, UV resistant, and repels damaging insects.

Step 6: Touch Up & Clean Up

Before leaving, we double- and triple-check every square inch of surface to ensure thorough, even application.

Finally, we clean up after ourselves, so the only thing we’re leaving in your backyard is a beautifully restored wooden fence, deck, or pergola!

Step 7: Warranty & Maintenance Schedule

Your finished stain job will have a 2 to 3 year warranty, depending on the stain color, and we offer affordable maintenance plans to keep your fence, deck, or pergola looking amazing year after year, saving you thousands compared to having to tear down and rebuild every few years due to inevitable deterioration.

Wouldn’t you rather keep your backyard beautiful and pristine while saving tons of money at the same time?

Meet The Owner & Founder

When Passion Meets Craftsmanship...

Hi, I’m Aaron Stanley, owner of Symphony in Cedar.

I’ve always been passionate about creating beauty. I even have a Master's Degree in Music Composition from the SMU Meadows School of Arts in Dallas.

I still compose music, of course, but I'm also working on different kind of symphony, where I can express another passion of mine: woodworking and wood restoration.

I bring the same commitment to craftsmanship and artistry I have as a composer to this

Symphony in Cedar

Unlike music, wood is usually silent. But it can speak volumes to the eyes and the hands. When masterfully worked, and properly cared for, it can be a “visual symphony” that brings as much appreciation and enjoyment as hearing a masterful ensemble perform a masterful composition.

That’s why I’m committed to using only the highest-quality premium products that result in a superior look and finish. (You won’t find them in the big corporate hardware stores.) It's why I've educated myself—and continue to educate myself—on how to produce the best results and the happiest clients.

If you'd like to transform your aging fence, deck, or pergola into a stunning “visual symphony” that you can feast your eyes on every time you step into your backyard, I'd be thrilled to be of service.

Click the link below, share a few details about the project, and I'll be in touch to develop a plan of action appropriate for you, and get you a quote, ASAP.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you repair fences, decks, or pergolas?

We can do minor repairs like replacing pickets, or individual pieces of trim, but for major repair work, you’ll want to contact a reputable, registered fence, deck, or pergola contractor since in most cities, a permit and inspection is required for repairs.

Do you only work with cedar? What about pine, or hardwood?

We work with whatever wood your outdoor structure is made of. Cedar is very common, and has the benefit of alliterating with “symphony!” But we can also clean, restore, stain, and protect pressure-treated pine, or premium hardwoods.

Do you stain any other types of structures besides fences, decks, or pergolas?

If it's outdoors and made of wood, we can probably restore and stain it. Just ask! Use the form below, send some photos, and we'll have a free consultation about it.

Can you apply stain that I supply?

Unfortunately, each brand of stain has different chemistry, different characteristics, different application methods, and produces different results that we can’t guarantee. That’s why—for the sake of efficiency and quality of service—we made the decision to work with ONE brand—Stain and Seal Experts—that we know and trust, and supply all the necessary materials and tools required to do the job extremely well. We don’t sell “labor,” nor do we sell "stain," we sell the end result—and we guarantee it.

What brand of stain do you use?

We use exclusively Stain and Seal Experts for several reasons: it is an eco-friendly, oil-based, penetrating stain with ultra-low VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), and packed with pigment for a rich, deep color. It has no awful chemical smell like typical store-bought stains. It is also mold and mildew resistant, and uses natural citronella oil to repel damaging insects. It also comes with a 2-3 year stain warranty, depending on the chosen color. (Lighter colors, while highlighting the natural look of the wood, require more maintenance than darker colors.)

In addition, we offer the equivalent workmanship warranty to ensure your outdoor wooden structure is protected from the elements, which not only protects your investment, but preserves your pride in your backyard.

What does the Stain Warranty cover? And what is the "Workmanship Warranty"?

The 2- to 3-Year Stain Warranty (depending on the chosen color) warranties against fading or peeling under normal weather conditions for the duration of the warranty. In reality, the stains will typically endure much longer, but we recommend a maintenance coat once the warranty ends, which will extend the warranty another 2 to 3 years, depending on the chosen color.

The "Lifetime Workmanship Warranty" is the lifetime of the Stain Warranty (2 to 3 years), and ensures 5 things: 1) that we won't get stain where it shouldn't go, or we'll fix it; 2) that we fully cover the structure as agreed, or we'll fix it; 3) that the wood is properly conditioned to accept the stain so it doesn't fail too soon, or we'll fix it; 4) that the structure gets adequate amount of product to ensure it doesn't fade too soon, or we'll fix it; and finally 5) that we will leave your backyard at least as clean as we found it, or we'll fix it.

The two warranties together not only help protect your investment, but help preserve your pride in your backyard.

What is your service area?

We're based in Lewisville, TX, and we focus on serving the 4-county area, near where Denton, Tarrant, Dallas, and Collin Counties intersect.

This includes the cities of Lewisville, Flower Mound, Highland Village, Coppell, Irving, Grapevine, Southlake, Carrollton, The Colony, and other cities in the mid-upper area of DFW.

Do you offer a maintenance plan after staining?

Absolutely! In fact, we recommend a maintenance plan to keep your outdoor structure looking beautiful year after year, so you can enjoy it any time you step into your backyard. You don't have to worry about anything. We'll reach out to schedule when it's time for a wash or to apply a maintenance coat.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash (with a 2% discount), check, Zelle, or any debit or credit card.

Do you offer any financing or payment plans?

We understand it's important to manage cash flow, especially when home maintenance, repairs, and improvements can easily add up to being "house poor!" That's why we've partnered with a reputable finance company that specializes in home improvement projects. No equity is required, and inquiries won't affect your credit. Simply ask us about it, and we can get you started.

Why should I do business with you versus another stain contractor?

Well, if our 100% Satisfaction Guarantee, 2-3 Year Stain Warranty, and Lifetime Workmanship Warranty aren't enough to entice you, consider that as the "new kid on the block," we're going to try harder... go the extra mile... and bend over backwards to make it an amazing experience for you.

That's because as a new company, we definitely have something to prove, and really want your 5-star rating! We're also offering special launch discounts if you'll commit to leaving an honest review.

How To Get A Free Quote & 15-Minute Virtual Consultation...

Before replying, you should know the following...

  • Virtual Consultations. To save time for us both, most consultations are done over the phone or Zoom. However, decks, pergolas, or other complicated structures may require a site visit to accurately measure and quote. You'll have an opportunity to schedule a time that's convenient for you.

  • No Games. We do not play negotiation games. The price is the price. If it makes sense, we have a deal! If not, no problem and no hard feelings.

  • Conditional Discounts. While prices aren't negotiable, there are opportunities for discounts if certain conditions are met, which we will cover on the call.
